Scene Detection and Easy Mode
Powered by the high algorithm power of DIGIC 4 Digital Image Processor, and coupled with Face Detection Technology, Noise Reduction Technology and Motion Detection Technology, the newly equipped Scene Detection Technology in the new models best demonstrates the power of shooting beauty coming from "Smart Auto" mode. By just pointing your camera to the subject or scene, the camera automatically detects scene conditions and switch to the optimum camera setting for the greatest image. Beautiful image is guaranteed for capturing people, objects or landscapes.

The Scene Detection Technology take faces, distance, light environment, color tone and movement information into account, and automatically determines the optimum shooting setting to use out of 18 different pre-set scene modes. Detecting not only general subjects like portrait, landscapes or macro objects, it can also detect daylight, night scenes or backlit conditions and adjust to different shooting modes. What's more, Scene Detection Technology is capable of recognizing blue skies and sunsets. With color saturation adjusted accordingly and dynamic range expanded, beautiful blue skies and magnificent sunsets in rich colors can be captured.

Furthermore, Easy Mode is available in PowerShot A1100 IS, simplifies camera operation with limiting the active control buttons to the shutter button with zoom lever and the flash on/off button, and reducing the number of informational icons on the camera's display. Easy Mode effectively eliminates user confusion and enables newcomers who are not familiar with camera control to capture memorable moments without feeling overwhelmed or intimidated by the camera's extensive capabilities.

Apart from the big advance in camera operation, thanks to Canon's proprietary developed DIGIC 4 the start-up time is now speeded up by 30%. With faster operation and the improved focusing speed and accuracy, images can be captured and processed almost instantly and shown in great details with vivid colors. Coupled with Canon's ingenious DIGIC 4 digital image processor capable of processing massive image data and efficiently reducing noise, you can be sure all image information will be translated into gorgeous gradients and rich tones.

The 12.1-megapixel CCD image sensor guarantees to gives detailed image which is sufficient for detailed enlargement of image larger than A3 size.

New Face Detect AiAF Function
By the new Face Detection Technology with the 9-point AF system, up to 9 faces can be tracked under framing and sharp focus is guaranteed. It automatically detects the contour of a face to adjust flash exposure and through its new additional function of Face Detection White Balance to adjust to the optimum white balance setting according to the subject's skin tone. This can guarantee the best effect and avoid under-exposure or over-exposure, ensuring the captured faces in natural skin tone. Furthermore, PowerShot A1100 IS also features Auto Red-eye Correction function. The camera can automatically detect "red eyes" in portrait shots and correct them accurately and instantaneously through built-in recovering system during shooting or image playback.

With conventional self-timer function, only the background is detected when the timer starts, which results in photo with face out of focus but clear background. Therefore, PowerShot A1100 IS comes with the new Face Detection Self-timer function that senses if there are extra faces in the frame. The shutter is released 2 seconds after the last person enters the frame, to detect and adjust the focus and exposure so it is possible to take beautiful photos in front of a desired background, and people’s face will be in sharp focus.

Intelligent ISO Speed Setting
PowerShot A1100 IS incorporates with the Intelligent ISO Speed Setting, can automatically detect the moving or static subject in the composition and determine the optimum ISO for shooting. When shooting moving subject, the camera will adjust to a higher ISO that shorten exposure time to minimize camera shake and image blur, while lowering the ISO speed to minimize noise for static subject for clear and sharp images.

4x Optical Zoom Lens with Built-in Optical Image Stabilizer (IS)
Complement with DIGIC 4 Digital Image Processor, PowerShot A1100 IS incorporates a 4x optical zoom lens. For those instances in which you cannot get as near as you would like to be, the 4x optical zoom lens can effortlessly close the distance, revealing distanced object in details. Together with built-in Image Stabilizer (IS), acute and speedy reaction can be made to minimize vibration and blurry images during shooting process, allowing users to produce sharp images.

i-Contrast Intelligent Contrast Correction
For faces that are backlit or in the shade that the distance exceeded a flash outreach, usually result in bad photos due to the incapability to estimate the light source. With the new i-Contrast function, the cameras can automatically brighten up face and background that are backlit appropriately, promising brightest image even in dark environment.
